The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a discussion paper proposing a strengthened framework for the resolution of stressed assets. The initiative aims to improve the efficiency, transparency, and consistency of the resolution process while supporting financial stability.

The proposed framework emphasizes early identification of financial stress, timely intervention by lenders, enhanced coordination among stakeholders, and a structured approach to debt restructuring. It also seeks to maximize value recovery, reduce delays in resolution, and encourage sustainable revival of financially distressed businesses.

If implemented, the framework is expected to strengthen credit discipline, improve asset quality in the banking sector, and create a more robust ecosystem for managing stressed assets in India.
